On 27 May 2010, a CSR awareness raising seminar was held at the China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Machinery & Electronic Products (CCCME). Vice General Secretary of CCCME, Mr. Wang Zhanxiong, and representatives from a number of key CCCME departments, including household electric appliances, electronics and IT products, machinery industry, and legal service, participated in the seminar.
During the event, Mr. Rolf Dietmar and Mr. Gao Baoyu of the Sino-German CSR Project presented CSR concepts and trends and highlighted several business cases for CSR.
Mr. Li Jingwei of the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) introduced key elements of the BSCI Code of Conduct and shared his factory auditing experiences with those in attendance. The seminar was interactive, with participants raising questions and commenting on particular topics of interest. However, based on feedback from the event, there still exists an overall lack of awareness of CSR in the industry. One possible solution that was discussed is the dissemination of CSR information materials to member companies to raise awareness. There was also an agreeement that CCCME staff should be further trained in CSR concepts so that they can provide better CSR-related consultancy to member companies in the future.
