The Sino-German Corporate Social Responsibility Project held an international CSR exchange meeting at Yong He Plaza in Beijing on 25 January 2010. As with previous events, the meeting aimed to promote networking and exchange among international organizations on CSR-relevant issues in China.
During the meeting, Mrs. Nanda Bergstein, Senior Manager Corporate Responsibility Non Food at Tchibo GmbH, presented the results of a successfully conducted Public Private Partnership between GTZ and Tchibo GmbH on Corporate Social Responsibility, the so-called “WE -Project”, which, over the last three years, has piloted CSR in over 40 companies and build up a sustainable CSR training framework in Asia.
“WE” piloted a training approach based on dialogue, not only between management and employees but also between trading companies and their suppliers. To achieve this, 13 local training institutions were trained in China, Bangladesh and Thailand between 2007 and 2010. In workshops and factory visits, the newly trained local trainers conveyed knowledge on social standards to managers and employees of pilot companies, and guided them in designing and implementing their own solutions to improve working conditions.
The presentation was followed by an exchange of ideas and experiences among participants, centering on the topic of making companies’ CSR performance a profit-making integral part of their business agenda thereby ensuring not only a responsible but also a sustainable development.
A total of 19 participants consisting predominantly of representatives from various embassies and international organizations attended the event.
